Who said resting nine players would make Friday night’s match against Richmond boring?

With its young guns pressuring ferociously, North surprised many by taking it up to a full-strength Tigers’ outfit.

While the youngsters eventually ran out of legs, the signs were extremely promising.

Majak Daw was one player who stood tall in the heat of battle, no more so than with his stunning first quarter goal that brought the crowd to its feet.

Shaun Atley’s kick into the middle of the ground saw Daw pitted against 200cm big man Ivan Maric, who proceeded to use his opponent as a step-ladder to take a towering overhead mark.

Without taking a second thought, Daw took a bounce, then kicked a huge goal from 60 metres on the run.

The 3AW commentators summed it up perfectly:

“Majak! Oh that’s a huge mark. Bounces away towards centre half-forward … this will be one of the goals of the year, drop punt on the way, amazing!”
