Barry Cable was the third North Melbourne identity to be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame on Friday night.
Cable won a Syd Barker Medal in 1970; his very first season at North. After then spending time in Perth, he returned to Arden Street for the 1974 season.
The skillful midfielder was instrumental in both the 1975 and 1977 premierships, playing more than 100 games for the Roos. His last game for the club was the 1977 Grand Final Replay win against Collingwood.
Cable returned to the Kangaroos late in 1981, stepping in as senior coach mid-season. He then took the side to finals campaigns in 1982 and 1983.
Born and raised in Narrogin, 200km south-east of Perth, Cable starred in the WAFL before crossing to North at the end of 1969.
Cable played 115 games and is considered one of the greatest rovers in the game’s history.
He was named in that position in the club’s Team of the Century, and holds Legend status in both the Australian Football Hall of Fame and the West Australian Football Hall of Fame for his amazing achievements.
