Nathan Grima says he’ll stay focused on his job in defence on Saturday, despite the prospect of playing against his long-time former teammates.
Grima will line up for just his second game in the red and black, after eight seasons at North.
“I’m just excited to be back out there playing – no doubt there’ll be a bit of fun out there during the game,” he said on Friday.
“Even though I love my banter, there won’t really be anything coming from me tomorrow.
“I’ve actually got one of the boys 30th birthday’s tomorrow night, so hopefully I get a kick so I can still go and not have to face the boys after getting towelled up.
“It’s not really a big story me playing. Obviously Paddy (Dangerfield) playing in Adelaide is a big story because he’s such a good player, but for me I just want to sneak in under the radar and get it done.”
On Thursday, Brad Scott said he was rapt to see Grima back out on the field, but admitted his presence could make the job tougher for the Roos’ forwards.
“He’s a real competitor Narni, and I’m rapt for him,” Scott said.
“Our key forwards will have their work cut out, because we know over a long period of time he’s been a really competitive key-defender for us.”
Grima retired from AFL football last year due to a serious back injury, but made a shock return, signing with Essendon in February.
“I think I was one of the first guys to call him last week when he was selected in Essendon’s team to congratulate him. It’s a great story," Scott added.
