New Roo Nathan Hrovat says he’s excited about his prospects for the 2017 season and beyond.
With several weeks under his belt as a Kangaroos player, Hrovat, who came to North during this year’s the trade period, said he had settled in well and was ready to make an impact.
“Going to training for the first couple of times at Arden St was a bit weird, but it’s very exciting,” the 22-year-old told RSN Summer Breakfast.
His first task in the royal blue and white was to head to Utah for the club’s pre-season training camp, which Hrovat said was the perfect start to life at a new club.
“It really helped the transition into a new team by spending two weeks with the first to four year guys which was really exciting," he said.
“It’s a nice way to move into it in America, in a different environment and you get to know the boys really quickly.”
Speaking on the decision to leave the Dogs, Hrovat said there was interest from several clubs, but he saw North Melbourne as the perfect fit.
“I had the decision to choose out of a few, and North were the one that really appealed to me and I really wanted to go to,” he added.
“The list more so than anything (appealed) – a real young list with a really exciting future. A lot of the guys are untried at the moment, I think you’ll see over the next 12 to 18 months a lot of these guys will hopefully play some senior footy and show the world what they’ve got.
“With a lot of senior guys going out, it creates a lot of opportunity for other guys.”
Standing at 175cm, Hrovat won’t be limited by his stature, saying the height of players was no longer the issue it once may have been.
“It’s gone full circle hasn’t it? It goes to show you what you can do when you’re more of a genuine footballer and you know what to do with the footy in your hands.
“Even guys coming through the ranks are seeing what guys in the league can do that probably aren’t as advantaged in the height department is really exciting and really good for them.”
