Second-year forward Corey Wagner has won North Melbourne's beep test on Friday in another sign that a new era has begun at Arden Street.

Wagner, 19, was the clear winner of the gruelling test, gritting his teeth to edge out fellow youngster Mitch Hibberd, pick No.33 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, at Arden Street.

Wagner, who was pick No.43 last year, managed four senior games in 2016.

Captain Jack Ziebell said the youngster was setting the standard on the track.

"Corey's had an outstanding pre-season and he's come back in great shape," Ziebell said.

"He had shoulder surgery towards the end of last year and he's not the only young bloke who's used this off-season to really improve.

"That just shows you the mindset of our list at the moment. Everyone's really hungry. The sense of opportunity is there and guys have come back in really good nick and are working their bums off."

Ziebell said it was important the club's emerging players kept stepping up to earn their opportunities.

"They're going to be really important players for us and we'll look to get them into the senior team early on," he said.

North Melbourne announced it had extended its contract with apparel provider Canterbury for the next six seasons.

The Roos signed an initial three-year contract with Canterbury ahead of the 2015 season, with the new deal taking the partnership through until the 2022 season.
