SUMMARY

Averaging 110 points per game, Werribee has been able to break games open with quick bursts of scoring.

From a six-goal burst in the first quarter against Footscray, to a 10-goal second half against Essendon and a dominant opening against Frankston, they’ve all added up to extended periods of momentum for the Tigers.

Meanwhile Williamstown’s victories have been largely based off the back of defence. Their opponents so far, Richmond, Casey and Port Melbourne have only averaged 59 points.

WHAT THE COACH SAID

“They’ve (Williamstown) got good culture, good spirit and are well coached. They’ll be super hard to beat.

“We beat them both times last year, but that counts for nought now. We’re a different unit and they’re very similar.” – John Lamont (heraldsun.com.au)

THE AFL CONTINGENT

Although final squads are yet to be confirmed, it appears likely there will be another strong contingent of Roos turning out for Werribee.

Through half back and midfield, the likes of Brad McKenzie, Trent Dumont, Aaron Mullett, Mitch Hibberd and Declan Mountford could be relied upon to provide the drive.

Down forward an array of tall talent – Mason Wood, Sam Durdin, Majak Daw, Aaron Black and co – loom as key to the result.

THE VFL CONTINGENT

Werribee

Matt Hanson has been one of his side’s best midfielders in 2016, racking up the possessions. Already with a good understanding alongside the Kangaroos in the side, the 20-year-old is an important cog through the centre.

Dane McFarlane kicked three goals in the victory against Footscray and was named in the bests; progressing nicely in his first season with Werribee.

Williamstown

Former Saint Sam Dunell leads the Williamstown goal kicking with nine – hitting the scoreboard in every match so far this season.

Through the midfield, Michael Gibbons has been one of the Seagulls’ main ball winners. Averaging 27 disposals a game this season, he’s responsible for a lot of their run and carry.
