Farren Ray says he’s enjoying working with the club’s youth brigade, while focusing on improving his own game.
After a promising VFL debut for Werribee, the veteran clearly understands what he has to do in 2016.
“My role here at the club and playing in the VFL is directing the younger guys,” Ray told NMFC.com.au.
“We’ve got some terrific youngsters that are finding their way and I get to guide them.
“I’m trying to get a kick myself but I’ve also got to show some leadership and think about the other boys as well.”
With a host of quality performances for the Tigers last Saturday, Ray had no hesitation in picking out the standouts.
“Mason Wood – even though he’s not really a youngster – played really well, Declan Mountford was terrific and his second half was really, really good.
“Corey Wagner, Ryan Clarke, a lot of good young talent. Each week they’ll get better and better and push for senior selection.”
On an individual note, the 30-year-old is focused on one key aspect of his play.
“I try and be a consistent player no matter what competition I’m playing in, whether it’s VFL or AFL,” Ray explained.
“The only thing I can do is keep stringing form together. If an opportunity pops up I still need to be in good form, so each week I’ll try and play consistent footy and play my role. If I come back into the AFL side, you’re there to play a role.”
