For Sydney to win on Friday night, it has to play its brand of footy, says Lance Franklin.
“(It’s) hard, contested ball,” the key forward told media on Wednesday.
Franklin’s claim is backed up by the raw numbers; the Swans average more contested disposals per game than any other team in 2016.
“Then we want the ball going our way to kick a big enough score to win,” Franklin added.
Sydney has won its last eight matches at the SCG and 17 of the last 19.
The Swans have balanced high scoring – in the 17 wins they’ve cracked the century on 10 occasions – with hard-nosed defence. No opposition has scored more than 100 points at the ground since 2013.
Franklin himself looms as vital to the result, but he won’t have it easy.
“Scott Thompson and (Robbie) Tarrant are both terrific footballers. They’re very strong and fast, so I’m looking forward to playing on one of them and hopefully getting the win.”
While the Swans will go in as favourites, Franklin said North can’t be underestimated, particularly given Brad Scott’s team has won its first nine games.
“They’ve (the Kangaroos) been playing consistent football the whole season.
“They’re a great team with good players all over the field and they play a good brand of football.
“It’s going to be a big challenge for us to get the win, but we can’t wait to get out there on Friday night in front of a big crowd at the SCG.
“It’s going to be a cracking game.”
