Debney Meadows Primary School, representing North Melbourne and surrounding areas, has beaten the odds to win the State Multicultural Schools Cup.

The girls team has come a long way since North started its schools program through the Huddle almost five years ago, putting their skills on show against the state’s best.

Many of the players have been regulars in various after-hours programs, including Kangas First Kick, with an aim to introduce them to AFL and inspire passion and encourage participation.

The girls made it thought to the grand final and won with ease, highlighted by a 24 to 1 score line, against competition favourites Lalor Primary.

The day was capped with another huge thrill as young Kowsar Abdi was recognised as the MVP.
