Daniel Wells will not be informing North Melbourne of his intentions for 2017 until after the club's best and fairest dinner.
The Syd Barker Medal will be held on October 7, and Wells' manager Liam Pickering said the 31-year-old would make a decision after that date.
Pickering also said it was "absolutely possible" that Wells, despite interest from other clubs, would choose to stay with the Kangaroos for a 15th season.
"He's close with Brad Scott, and obviously very close with Lindsay Thomas and quite a few others - he's been there for a long time now," Pickering said on NAB AFL Trade Radio.
When suggested by host Damien Barrett that Collingwood had offered Wells a three-year contract, compared to the two-year deal North Melbourne had put on the table, Pickering said it was "around the mark".
"The Cats have got some interest too, there's no doubt about that," he said.
Wells played 19 matches and averaged 23 disposals this year after an injury-decimated 2015, and was often in North Melbourne's best.
