Since coming to North Melbourne, Marley Williams has been doing everything he possibly can to improve, both as a player and a person.
The hard-nut defender managed just 11 games at Collingwood in 2016 because of a foot injury and is glad to have been given a fresh start at Arden Street.
“That’s why there is a trade period, you can go to another club and regenerate what you are good at and what you have been good at,” he told the Herald Sun.
“It was huge for me, getting a change and working my way from the bottom to the top again.”
The 23-year-old is averaging 15 disposals a game with the Kangaroos but still has plenty of upside as he settles in to his new club.
“I guess we are only three games in and we haven’t got any results yet, but I am pretty happy with the way personally I am going but I have got a lot more to bring to this team.”
Williams knows his kicking is a work in progress.
“We do a lot of skills in the morning, we come out to the oval and we have little areas you have to work and I do that with Gavin Brown and Brad Green. You work on that over and over in the 15 minutes you have.
“I am just trying to get my ball drop right, that’s what lets me down. I am trying to get really good connection with a straight drop, I have been working on that a fair bit.
“Green was a great player and a great kick, so he’s been really good for us younger boys.”
Off the field Williams is keeping busy after opening a “urban wellness centre” on Chapel Street with salt rooms, float tanks and massages.
“I am just trying to put my best foot forward and seeing where it takes me.”
