Story of the game
The Tigers started well enough at Trevor Barker Beach Oval, with two of the first three goals, but within the blink of an eye the game took a huge turn.
By quarter-time, Sandringham had burst out to a 37-point lead off a nine goal term.
Nick Larkey and Cam Zurhaar helped turned the tide, as the Tigers kicked three goals to nil in the second quarter. When the former kicked his third mid-way through the third term, the margin was just six points.
Sandringham again hit back though in a see-sawing battle. The game looked all but over when Ray Connellan helped the Zebras to a 34-point lead, but there was another surge to come.
Werribee booted four in eight minutes and late in the last, Will Fordham goaled to bring it back to just eight points.
The Tigers continued to push forward, but when the final siren sounded, fell short by a goal.

Talking points
Simpkin steps in
2016 draftee Jy Simpkin was a welcome addition to Werribee's line-up, returning from an AC Joint injury.
While he had somewhat of a slow start, the youngster came into the game with plenty of time in attack, with his tackling and presence around the ball a highlight.
Simpkin finished with 15 disposals and kicked a goal.
Larkey looms large
Nick Larkey moved to fifth on the VFL's goal-kickers list with another four on Sunday.
The first-year player could have booted a bag, if not for a couple of shots that hit the post, but is impressing nonetheless with his ability in the air and at ground-level.
Wright on track
Sam Wright has had a frustrating start to 2017 due to injury, but things are looking up for North's number 19.
The defender showed off his leadership as a general in defence, also providing plenty of run going the other way.
In just his second game back, he'd no doubt he rapt with a 30-disposal haul.
Fordham finds footy
Rookie Will Fordham had one of his best games of the year, finishing with 25 touches and two goals.
When the game was in the balance, his run and carry was a feature.
Nielson the form defender
Daniel Nielson has put together perhaps his best month of footy since arriving at the club.
The number 26 again impressed with his intercept marking, to finish with eight grabs in total. He also held strong in the contest, as has been a feature of his game this year.
