Sam Gibson didn’t play his first AFL match until the age of 26, but five years into his career he’s reaching and surpassing significant games’ milestones on a regular basis.

The midfielder is set to line up in the royal blue and white for the 113th time in succession on Saturday night, taking him to equal fifth all-time for consecutive games from debut.

Gibson equals Footscray’s Steve Wallis, who played 113 games straight between 1983 and 1987.

Elevated from the rookie list after arriving from the Box Hill Hawks, the Roos’ number 43 has had over 20 disposals on 73 occasions, in a sign of his consistency. 

He still has a long way to go to catch Sydney’s Jared Crouch though, who played 194 games in a row after his debut in 1998.
