2013 All-Australian ruckman Will Minson has joined North's coaching ranks, assigned the task of instructing former foe Todd Goldstein, as well as Majak Daw, Braydon Preuss and developing rookie Tom Jeffries.
Minson comes to Arden Street with a wealth of experience having played in three consecutive preliminary finals in 2008-10 and won a VFL flag.
Goldstein is looking forward to collaborating and knows a new perspective could help him return to his best.
“It’s great to have someone like Will, who is fresh out of the game,” Goldstein told NMFC.com.au.
Minson takes over from former North champion Alex “Russian” Ishchenko in the role of ruck coach.
“We had ‘Russian’ for a number of years and he was absolutely outstanding for me but now, to get a new face in and some new perspectives and ideas, is really exciting,” Goldstein added.
“I think he’ll be able to help me adds some more strings to my bow.”
Minson, a former Bulldog that retired from playing at the end of 2016, was once the most dominant ruckman in the league.
“Will’s got the runs on the board and I’m looking forward to learning a lot from him,” Goldstein said.
“He was tough to play against. When he was at his peak, there was none better. His physical strength combined with his ability to impact and move around the ground was by far, the best in the competition. He was very, very hard to play against and I learned a hell of a lot from him as an opponent.”
North GM Football Cam Joyce said Minson would work on a part time basis throughout the week and on matchdays.
"It's no easy task filling Alex's shoes, whichever way you look at it, but we are thrilled to have Will on board in 2018,"
"Will was a formidable ruckman in his prime and will be an asset for the club and our rucks. We’re excited about what he’ll bring to the table."
