Just when she thought her dream of playing at the highest level was over, Tasmanian Nicole Bresnehan's world was turned upside down.
“I was at work watching on my computer and was really shocked. I obviously had to wait until pretty late, but I was super excited when I saw my name on the screen,” Bresnehan told the Mercury.
The Clarence midfielder was selected with the Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos with their final pick, 61.
“I’m only into my fourth season now but it’s great that all the hard work is paying off and it’s obviously going to be a lot tougher work over the next couple of months but I’m ready for it," she added.
Bresnehan is a familiar face to the Kangaroos, as the unofficial face of the club in Tasmania throughout the initial push for a team. But now, she can officially call herself a Kangaroo and won't have to move interstate to live out her dream.
“Not having to relocate is great with work and things but to be able to play in front of friends and family down here along with playing some games on the mainland will be an amazing feeling.”
Bresnehan was selected as well as twins Chloe and Libby Haines (pick 53 and 56), taking the number of North's Tasmanian listed players to eight.
Her selection was well deserved after a breakout season with Clarence where she finished third in the TSLW Best and Fairest count while also making the Team of the Year.
