Career so far:
Dom Tyson was highly touted by those that watched him progress through the junior ranks.
Playing in Greater Western Sydney's maiden season, Tyson debuted in Round 1 against cross-town rivals Sydney and was handed the subs vest.
The midfielder went on to play another nine games in his first year, and earned a Rising Star nomination in Round 23 against North Melbourne after recording 26 disposals, 7 clearances, 5 marks and a goal.
Expected to take major strides forward in his second year, Tyson was struck down with a PCL injury late in the summer of 2012, which limited his 2013 season to just three games.
The then 20-year-old requested a trade home to Victoria at the conclusion of 2013, and it was Melbourne that was fortunate enough to acquire his services in exchange for draft picks.
Tyson made an immediate impact on his new club, playing 22 games in his first season, five of which he recorded more than 30 possessions.
In 2015, Tyson managed 15 games, with a knee complaint sidelining him during the middle of the season, while a hamstring injury cut his year short at Round 19.
The following season was a lot more kind to the then 23-year-old. He featured in 21 games, missing just one through illness.
Tyson finished fourth in the club’s best and fairest that year, behind Jack Viney, Nathan Jones and Max Gawn.
In 2017 and 2018, Tyson found himself playing 19 and 17 games respectively and was an important part of Melbourne’s best 22 but was starved of midfield time.
What they say
“Dom is a proven ball winner who averages 22 disposals a game and his clearance work is a real strength,”
“We’re really happy to be adding a player of his calibre to our club.” - North Melbourne GM of Football, Cam Joyce
What he says
“I feel like I play my best footy as an inside mid, but I certainly have the ability to go out to a wing as well.
“This year at Melbourne, my opportunities to play inside were limited, so part of what made me want to come to North was that role of playing as an inside-mid more often.”
“I’m happy to come in and try and contribute to the mix, but I’m certainly keen to learn some things from the older boys as well.”
“I need to train well throughout the preseason and stay healthy. I need to listen to the coaches and be really clear about what they want me to do and I feel like I’ve played enough good footy to know what my good footy looks like, so I’m confident I’ll be able to bring that to North next year and many more after that.” - Dom Tyson
