Bulldogs’ defender Easton Wood won’t be available to take on North Melbourne on Sunday, after suffering a broken hand during a marking contest.

The 24-year-old injured his right hand against St Kilda on the weekend. He was sent for scans on Monday and a small fracture was discovered.
Western Bulldogs’ Medical Services Manager Andrew McKenzie said surgery was required to stabilise the area.

“Wood has unfortunately sustained a broken hand in Sunday’s game and it was determined surgery was the best course of action,” McKenzie said.

The incident will bring about an early end to Wood’s year.

“Subsequently, Easton will not be available for selection for the remainder of the season, but we expect he will be fully recovered by the commencement of pre-season.”

Wood collected 18 disposals in the club’s Round 2 loss to the Kangaroos and had played every game so far this year for his club. He was averaging a career-high 15 disposals a game.
