The opening of the $11.75M Chirnside Park redevelopment was greeted by applause and excitement with North Melbourne Football Club’s award winning not for profit, The Huddle, about to broaden its footprint.

“We are serving more people in the community and have more staff, and now with the opening of the Huddle’s facilities in the Chirnside Park Hub, we have a suitable space for this expansion,” North GM of Community Engagement, Cameron McLeod said.

“The Huddle is undertaking incredible expansion at this point.”

A joint initiative of North Melbourne, Wyndham City Council, Werribee Football Club, AFL, AFL Victoria, Victorian State Government and the Australian Federal Government, the grand opening will have a profound impact.

“Chirnside Park is the centre-place for Wyndham sport, community, and recreation,” Mayor of Wyndham, Peter Maynard said.

“The facility includes a regional level pavilion, facilities for women’s football, a new grandstand, a commercial kitchen and kiosk, multi-purpose social, meeting and community spaces, media rooms, coaches spaces and improved car parking.

“With Wyndham’s growing population and increase in diversity, not only are we addressing the sport and leisure need of residents but we are also providing space where they can connect, socialise, and build a sense of community.”

The importance of having a space for the community to come together clear to those in attendance.

Wyndham is not only one of the most diverse municipalities, it is also the fastest growing city in Victoria and the fourth fastest in Australia.

“The Huddle is positioned perfectly to really support the Wyndham community,” McLeod added.

“The Huddle aims to engage, support, and empower young people to learn, grow, and belong with their community.”

It is estimated a third of residents in the area speak a language other than English at home, and there are more than 100 languages, other than English, spoken by residents.

“We offer a range of initiatives with a focus on sport and recreation, education and careers, digital skills and civic participation,” McLeod said.

The Huddle - Chirnside Park, is located at 150-226 Watton Street, Werribee.
