The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have finalised their list ahead of the 2019 season, with cross-code rookie Beth Lynch the final signing. 

Sister of former Gold Coast co-captain, Tom Lynch, the 21-year-old ex-netballer impressed with her athleticism and competitiveness this season. 

“Her development and growth with Richmond VFLW over the course of the year was very impressive,” North AFLW coach Scott Gowans told North Media.  

“She’s a natural athlete and has shown that in her ability to break away from the pack, especially around stoppages. 

“Beth played in a number of roles this season so she will provide a lot of flexibility.”

Her brother’s success and the growth of AFLW inspired Lynch, but she admits to having reservations about crossing codes.

“Watching him [Tom] play, footy’s always been a big part of my life,” Lynch said. 

“At the end of last year, I saw the AFL girls playing and decided that I thought maybe I could be able to do that. 

“The family got a bit sick of me talking about it, then they said, “why don’t you actually try instead of talking about it?”.”

Lynch is now looking forward to the new challenge. 

“It’s very overwhelming, definitely, it’s been very quick but very exciting nonetheless,” Lynch said. 

Lynch’s signing comes after North’s successful Draft on Tuesday, where Daisy Bateman, Courteney Munn and Tasmanian trio Chloe Haines, Libby Haines and Nicole Bresnehan were all selected.
