After a delayed start to the pre-season, Kayne Turner is happy to be back training with the main group after featuring prominently in Friday’s intra-club.
“It’s good to be back out there with the boys,” Turner told North Media.
“I missed the one a few weeks ago because I had a bit of a tight hamstring so I didn’t want to risk it early, but it was really good to get out there and have another crack against some really good opposition.”
Turner admits that despite it being a practice match, he needed to keep an eye on his enthusiasm.
“You’ve got to sort of hold yourself back a bit when you realise it’s against your own teammates, you can’t go as hard as you would like sometimes,” he said.
“It was still a very competitive game and good to get a bit of body on body again.”
The 22-year-old appeared in a career-high 15 games in 2017, but still missed eight through injury.
Turner believes that if he and his teammates can get a sustained run throughout the season, anything’s possible.
“There’s a lot of in the same boat where we finally had a good run at it but just missed out,” he added.
“If we can get everyone fit and on the park like we had early last year, we can surprise a few of the teams early on, and this year we can hopefully go one step further and win a few more games, and hopefully be there around September.”
Turner will look to play in the upcoming JLT Community Series, with an eye on featuring in North’s Round 1 clash with Gold Coast.
