Tasmania’s Brittany Gibson has been honoured by her local club Devonport, with her name attached to its rising star award.

Recently recruited to the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos in the AFLW signing period, the Brittany Gibson Future Star Award, recognises the club’s most talented junior female.

Local talent Jessie-Lee Smith won the inaugural award, after transiting to football from soccer and basketball.

“I am truly honoured and hope this award will inspire young girls coming through,” Gibson told North Media.

“As females, we now have the chance to play in an elite competition, which has only really happened in the past couple of years, so there’s plenty of opportunities.

“It’s great that girls just like Jessie-Lee are giving football a go and now have genuine avenues to compete at the highest level.”
