The North VFL side caused its second upset in a row, this time taking the points against ladder-leaders Box Hill.
North Media spoke with senior assistant coach Ben Dyer about some of the stand-out performances.
Cameron Zurhaar | 18 disposals | 6 tackles | 4 goals
“He hurt his opponents at ground level and in the air as well by taking a number of contested marks.
“He was able to finish his work, and his tackle pressure was what we have come to expect from him since he’s been here.
“It was a pretty well-rounded game from him, and it’s what you want to see from a bloke that’s come back from the AFL.”
Paul Ahern | 27 disposals | 7 clearances | 8 inside 50’s
“Paul was terrific.
“In the past couple of weeks, he’s really been on the front foot in coming forward to pressure the opposition.
“We know that he uses the ball really well and can get guys on the outside into space, but I thought he added to his game with his pressure on the weekend.”
Nick Larkey | 13 marks | 6 marks | 5 goals
“After a quieter couple of weeks, it was good to see him back in a bit of form, particularly in the first half when he was all over the Hawthorn defenders.
“He was marking everything that was coming his way, and he was finishing off in front of goal as well, which was really good.”
Kyron Hayden | 23 disposals | 6 clearances | 1 goal
“He probably had one of his stronger games.
“He played predominantly forward and then went into the middle in the last quarter.
“I thought he really took on the tackler this week, and used his strength and size to his advantage, which is something he’s been working on, and will continue to work on as well.
“In terms of his involvements in the game, they were probably higher than they’ve been for the past couple of weeks, and he looked dangerous when he got it.”
Chris Jansen (VFL-listed) | 25 disposals | 6 tackles | 5 clearances
“It was just a typical CJ game.
“He was busy inside and was also able to get outside and hurt the opposition on a few occasions.
“He’s just becoming really important in terms of his organisation around stoppages, so we’re rapt with how he went.”
Braydon Preuss | 17 disposals | 5 marks | 48 hitouts
“He was good.
“He was quite dominant against (Marc) Pittonet after (Jonathon) Ceglar got the call-up to the AFL side.
“He was up against the one recognised ruckman, and I thought he certainly gave us first use and he took a number of marks around the ground as well, so when he’s doing that he’s having a good day.
“He was pretty important.”
