Fans can expect an exciting brand of football from North’s AFLW team next year according to the man at the helm, Scott Gowans.
“We want to move the ball quickly and we want to have a forward line that can kick goals,” Gowans told North Media.
“Defence is vital in football and we’ll build a really staple backline that can rebound the footy quite quickly.”
As for the type of player the Roos are looking to attract, it’s no surprise what‘s on their shopping list.
“The type of players we’ll have will be those that can rebound quickly but also have a level of skill to get the ball to the forwards and put it to their advantage,” he said.
“If I was a supporter I’d be really excited to come and watch that.”
Gowans believes his coaching style combined with what promises to be an exciting recruiting strategy has the potential to lead to success.
“I am very big on clarity, preparation and communication; they’re my three staples of coaching philosophy,” he said.
“If you combine those then you get a little bit of talent on field, and Emma Kearney’s a great start, then you can’t go too far wrong.”
With the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos and Geelong entering into the competition in 2019, there is plenty of opportunity for the taking according to Gowans.
“I’m really confident any player that comes through North Melbourne and has a look at our set up and meets the people involved would want to play here.”
