Adelaide has secured the services of rebounding defender Curtly Hampton from Greater Western Sydney.

The deal will see the Giants receive the Crows' future second-round draft pick in exchange for the 22-year-old.

The opportunity-starved Hampton requested a trade and nominated Adelaide as his preferred new home despite being contracted for next year.

Hampton said he was delighted to be returning to South Australia, where he has strong family connections and was a boarder at Adelaide's Immanuel College for several years.

"I was a Crows fan as a kid, so I'm really excited to be here," Hampton said.

"I was at the Giants for five years … but I thought it was best for me and my footy that I made the change.

"I really want to come in and cement my place at the club with hard work."

Hampton played 51 games, including just five AFL matches this season, since joining the Giants as a Northern Territory zone selection in 2010.

Giants football manager Graeme Allan said the move would allow Hampton more opportunity at the elite level.

"Unfortunately this season he wasn't able to play as much senior football as he would have liked, so hopefully this trade can facilitate more opportunities for him," Allan said.

"Securing a second-round pick in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft puts us in a good position to explore further options at the end of next season.”.

It is the second time a club has used a future draft pick to orchestrate a trade.

Geelong offloaded its 2016 first-round selection to secure swingman Lachie Henderson from Carlton on Wednesday.

Hampton's departure comes on the same day the Giants secured unrestricted free agent Dawson Simpson from Geelong.
