Despite a tough start to the season, Luke Davies-Uniacke has been a shining light. 

The number 9’s performance against the Brisbane Lions in Round 2 was outstanding. 

As a 19-year-old with just 9 games under his belt, he racked up 26 disposals (15 contested) at 81% efficiency, and two score assists. 

“Obviously the win would have been ideal, but I was happy with my performance,” Davies-Uniacke told North Media. 

“I’ve started to really feel more confident, and am backing myself in at every contest. The hard work in the pre-season seems to be really paying off.” 

After dominating at under 18 level, Davies-Uniacke would be the first to admit his first season in the AFL wasn’t easy.  

But another Summer under the belt, and more time through the midfield is already paying dividends.

“I am starting to feel more comfortable at this level. I want to hunt and get the ball and I’m more worried about doing my role more than who I’m going up against,” Davies-Uniacke said.

“The onus has fallen on me a bit more with Benny (Jacobs) and Jed (Anderson) out, but it’s good to be given that faith and trust by the coaches.

“I’m happy with where I am (in the team), but I’m not going to take it for granted. I’m going to keep training hard to keep my spot.”

During the week, it’s about doing the little things that make him best placed to perform on the weekend.

“Training has been good, I’ve been focusing on my recovery and making sure I’m doing all the little things right,” Davies-Uniacke said.   

“Games come around quickly, and we have some six day breaks coming up. I want to stay fresh.”

The young on-baller looking forward to another big challenge against the Hawks on Sunday.

“It should be a really good match this weekend, I’m looking forward to it,” Davies-Uniacke added. 

“We still have a point to prove. There were some signs last week, but we want to get that right this week and hopefully get up.”
