North Melbourne could be without Shaun Higgins for up to 12 weeks with the forward requiring surgery to repair damage to his meniscus.
The 28-year-old suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s match against St Kilda.
“Shaun will have a procedure today after advice from specialists earlier in the week,” Director of Football Geoff Walsh told NMFC.com.au.
“It’s extremely unfortunate, but our focus is to ensure Shaun will have a thorough rehabilitation, which will allow him to return to the side late in the season.”

The early prognosis puts his potential comeback in the vicinity of Round 20.
It’s been a luckless start to 2016 for Higgins after minor knee surgery interrupted his pre-season campaign.
“He’s a tremendous character and an utter professional, so we know he will bounce back strongly from this setback,” Walsh added.
