Nick Larkey was one of North Melbourne’s shining lights last weekend, and now the 20-year-old has been recognised by one of the game’s greatest forwards.
“Well done to Nick Larkey on Friday night,” former Brisbane star Jonathan Brown said during Monday night’s On The Couch.
“He was one of the bright spots for North Melbourne.
“They were looking for another key forward to support Ben Brown, and he looked strong and played with a bit of presence.
“As a young fella in his third game, he was able to go back and kick his first goal, and he had a bit of swagger (when he looked back at Dougal Howard) about him too which I liked.
“At 198 centimetres, North fans have got a bit to look forward to. I thought he looked good.”
Kicking three goals, all of which were part of North’s second half comeback, Larkey’s impact wasn’t lost on another legendary forward.
“He’s got a little bit of Drew Petrie about him,” Wayne Carey said on Friday night.
Coach Brad Scott was also pleased with the key forward’s output.
“We were really pleased with Nick Larkey, we brought him in and he provided another focal point,” he said post-match.
“Ben Brown didn’t have a great night, but we had another avenue to goal.
"There were little glimpses tonight that suggest that the foundation’s okay."
