Carlton coach Daniel Harford is sceptical of the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos’ preparation ahead of its inaugural AFLW season, citing a potential lack of chemistry in a newly formed team.
The Roos will take on Harford’s Blues, featuring the likes of Darcy Vescio, Tayla Harris and Brianna Davey, on Sunday at North Hobart Oval.
“It’s (North's) a really daunting list, but as we all know, you’ve also got to have great chemistry,” Harford told RSN.
“Great teams have great chemistry, and I don’t think they’ve had the time yet to produce that.
“Whether or not class will prevail for them, or whether or not we can gain an edge with the girls that have been together for a long period of time and the plan we’ve got in place, I’m not sure.”
Opposition analysis at Carlton is an unenviable task right now, given the Roos' playing group has played just the one practice game and is yet to play for premiership points.
With players joining North from other clubs, other sports and via the draft, there is little intel to work off.
“They are a real unknown,” Harford said.
“You look at their lineup and it’s pretty daunting, I must admit.
“There are clubs through the competition that have got established players that have been around for a couple of years, but North Melbourne have got established stars.
“I have no idea what’s going to happen on Sunday from North Melbourne’s perspective, I have some idea of what to expect from our girls, but until we do it under pressure, I think we’re all in the dark a little bit.”
