Pick 46 at the 2018 National Draft, Curtis Taylor enjoyed a solid start to life as an AFL footballer.

As a highly-touted draft prospect, the Roos jumped at the chance to recruit him when he slipped to pick 46, trading up the order to secure the talented forward.

Taylor showed some fantastic early season form in the VFL, and earned a call-up for the Round 8 clash with Geelong.

Although he was quiet, and subsequently omitted, Taylor worked hard in the VFL, forcing another call-up for the Round 17 clash with Essendon.

The number 31 impressed with his eye for goal and strong ability overhead.

Taylor enjoyed his finest game of the season in the Round 14 VFL clash with Sandringham, when he kicked 4.4 and took nine marks.

An impressive first season in the VFL saw him finish as the Roos’ second-highest goal-kicker, with 17 majors to his name.

Exposure to AFL football and a fine first season in the VFL suggests Taylor has a strong platform to build on for 2020.

What he said

“Obviously, when you’re drafted, you are there to play AFL footy, so I’m very hungry to get there.

“When I go out each week in the VFL, I go out with the mindset that I want to play in the AFL the next week.

“I’ve been spending a bit of time on the wing to learn another position other than forward and make myself a bit more versatile.

“But I see my strengths as more suited to a forward role, as I think I can hit the scoreboard, and can defend from the front with my work rate and pressure.”
