Each week, the best VFL player will be crowned MVP – Presented by the Limerick Castle; a country-style pub located in the heart of North Melbourne.
Round 5: Nathan Hrovat
Small forward Nathan Hrovat has done his chances of an AFL recall no harm, kicking six goals in North VFL’s 20-point win over Geelong.
In addition to his bag of six, he had 16 disposals, 15 of which were kicks, and took eight marks in what was a best-on-ground performance.
The 24-year-old could well have had more goals to his name, kicking three behinds.
“It was a great team performance and I was lucky enough to get on the end of a few,” Hrovat told North Media post-game.
“I don’t necessarily think that kicking lots of goals is a focus area for me, it’s simply more the outcome of the process.
“Today it was off the back of a lot of good work from the guys up the ground.”
Coach David Loader was impressed with the forward’s output, and believes his contributions to the group off-the-field are as important as those on it.
“Gee he was good wasn’t he?” Loader said.
“His football ability aside, you just love what he brings to the group because he’s infectious with his want to get better and the way he interacts with the kids.
“I thought he was outstanding today.
“He played his role really well, played with great energy, and you saw him at the end of the game just how excited he was to be involved in the win, so that’s really good.”
The AFL-listed star was the main man in two memorable plays, kicking a beautiful snap from the boundary in the opening ten seconds of the match, then rising high late in the third term to take a Mark of the Year contender.
“I’m not going to lie, the screamer felt pretty good,” Hrovat added.
“It’s the first time that I’ve ever gotten off the ground.
“I just thought I’d have a bit of a crack.
“I’m assuming the footage is probably not as good as it looks in my head, but it was good fun.”
