Each week, the best VFL player will be crowned MVP – Presented by the Limerick Castle; a country-style pub located in the heart of North Melbourne.
Round 1: Nick Larkey.
An ability to create damage in multiple areas will only fast-track Larkey’s development, according to his teammate, Nathan Hrovat.
The 20-year-old finished the night with three goals and 11 marks to his name.
“He’s going to be a really damaging forward for us, hopefully at senior level,” Hrovat told North Media.
Winner of the ‘Frosty’ Miller Medal in 2018 as the VFL’s leading goal-kicker, Larkey has added a new dimension to his game.
The third-year forward spent time during the season opener in the ruck, providing first use at stoppages against Werribee.
“If he can have that dimension of ruck to his game, where he can give Todd Goldstein a bit of a chop out, he’s going to be a valuable asset,” Hrovat added.
According to Larkey, adding a new string to his bow will help increase his chances of senior selection.
“It’s something the coaches have spoken to me about,” he explained.
“Just giving a contest, competing as well as I can, and learning the craft at training; I don’t mind it, it’s good.”
Larkey’s development hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“Not just today, he’s been fantastic all pre-season," Hrovat said.
"He’s had a really good pre-season and you’re probably seeing a little of his form come out tonight.
“He’s very deserving of all the accolades he hopefully gets from this game, kicking a few. He was fantastic for us.”
