Shaun Higgins says while the novelty of Rhyce Shaw’s coaching takeover has well and truly worn off, the players are enjoying his style and what he’s brought to the team dynamic.
The Roos’ recent successes and aggressive game style can all be put down to Shaw’s approach and relationship-first attitude.
“It almost feels the norm now, footy moves on really quickly,” Higgins explained.
“Shawry’s been a huge part of that because he’s made life easy for us as players ... we’re playing some footy that’s looking like what we want it to look like and he’s going about it in all the right ways.
“He’s just tightened things up a little bit, added his flavor onto it, but all in all, the game-plan is pretty similar ... he’s wanted to make sure that we were able to do the things well, that we’ve done well in the past.”
Higgins a fan of the way the club has been setting up during the week, under Shaw.
“Shawry’s been huge on the Monday to Friday work, and making sure that everything we do is geared up to getting the result on the weekend,” he said.
“We’re always optimistic. We prepare really well, we prepare to win.”
And there’s no bigger challenge than facing the reigning premier, West Coast, in Perth.
“We look forward to the challenge of coming up against one of the best sides in the comp on their home deck ... They’ve had a great year.”
