Trade Winds: October 9
Blues bid up big, Pods in demand and Dockers get busy.
North Melbourne will not always confirm or deny trade rumours and the details relating to the club in this article have not been approved or ratified by it.
Busy Blues
Are the Blues emerging as the busiest behind-the-scenes players?
It is believed the Blues and Melbourne have looked at delisted veteran Western Bulldog Daniel Cross, who is determined to keep playing.
Fairfax has added the Blues to James Podsiadly's list of suitors, and listed Levi Casboult and Josh Bootsma as players discussed with rival clubs.
And Paul Chapman has been linked to the club, with News Limited reporting Kane Lucas is a player they are willing to part with.
Dale Thomas remains in limbo, with the Pies yet to confirm whether they'll match the Blues' offer to the restricted free agent.
Blood Bud
Wednesday morning will give Sydney Swans fans the first chance to see Lance Franklin in the red and white after Hawthorn decided not to match the extraordinary nine-year deal offered to the superstar.
Franklin officially became a Swan on Tuesday night after the Hawks took four hours to announce it would not match the deal.
In its approval of the $10 million deal, the AFL stipulated the contract would apply to the club's total player payment for each of the nine years, regardless of how long Franklin played.
It's a huge risk for the Swans and one that a number of clubs wouldn't take.
The Hawks will only get one compensation pick for the restricted free agent's move.
Franklin will be revealed as a Swan for the first time at the SCG on Wednesday at 10.30am AEST.
Adams likes Pies
Taylor Adams is a hot property, with the Greater Western Sydney midfielder wanting to move back to Victoria.
AFL.com.au believes the Magpies are now in prime position to secure Adams, after he decided to pursue a career in the black and white despite links to Geelong, where he grew up.
The Pies will be in a position to make the Giants a solid offer soon after finalising the futures of Thomas and Heath Shaw.
Popular Pod
Fremantle is also keen on Podsiadly.
The veteran forward is on the Dockers' possibilities list, along with injury-prone Essendon forward Scott Gumbleton.
Adelaide list manager David Noble told SEN on Wednesday morning both forwards were also under consideration for the Crows.
Swings and roundabouts
Former West Coast assistant Scott Burns has returned to the club where he played 265 games after accepting a position in Collingwood's coaching staff.
Former Pie administrator Geoff Walsh has headed back to North Melbourne as director of football. He was the club's CEO from 2002-06 before becoming Collingwood's football manager until July this year.
News Limited claims Mark Harvey has been ruled out of the interim Essendon coaching job and says Mark Thompson remains reluctant to officially interview while talks have continued with Leigh Tudor and Neil Craig.
Other news
Reports that North Melbourne is prepared to trade Luke Delaney and pick No.26 to St Kilda for Nick Dal Santo have been questioned on Melbourne radio.
News Limited reported the key defender and second-round pick had been packaged together in a bid to finalise the trade for the veteran midfielder.
Dal Santo met with the Roos' leadership group last week and is keen on a trade but has to decide what is best for himself and the Saints.
But SEN's Andrew Maher refuted the plan on Wednesday morning, saying he had been told the Kangaroos' draft pick was not on the table.
Freo will assist Josh Mellington in trying to facilitate a trade back to Victoria, while midfielder Viv Michie is entertaining offers from the Dockers and Melbourne.
Nat Fyfe for the Giants' NAB AFL Draft selection No.1 was something the Dockers never considered, but they have joined West Coast as clubs interested in Brisbane Lions' utility Elliot Yeo after the Eagles offered a three-year deal.
They are have some interest in injury-prone Hawk Xavier Ellis.
Bernie Vince is not on the Crows' trade table, according to Noble, and Ricky Henderson is a required player.
