1. Daniel Wells roving goal

Midway through the first quarter both teams are struggling to get on the scoreboard.

Lachlan Hansen takes a diving mark at half-forward. He lands heavily and leaves a divot in the Etihad Stadium surface, but quickly gets to his feet and looks to the goal square.

His target is Robbie Tarrant who is manned tightly by the Bulldogs’ Jordan Roughead. The key-forward dives but is unable to get a hand to the ball. However Daniel Wells works down from the middle of the ground to the perfect position front and centre. He roves the ball without changing stride and snaps a goal from close range.

2. Drew Petrie on the run
11-points down during the second quarter, North needs a spark. Enter Drew Petrie.

The key-forward is caught in the middle of two Bulldogs’ defenders as he contests a mark at half-forward. He brings the ball to ground and quickly re-gathers, throwing it onto the boot from 50m under immense pressure from Brian Lake. Remarkably, it sails over the goal umpire’s head from long range.

3. Scott McMahon saves a goal
North has the ascendency in the third term but the Bulldogs won’t go away. Jason Tutt streams through the middle of the ground and spots an open goal square as he throws the ball on the boot from 60 metres out.

Scott McMahon is barely past the 50 metre arc as he gives chase. The ball looks to be drifting to the right, but takes an awkward bounce at the last second leaving McMahon to make a desperate lunge, and ultimately a goal-saving one.

4. Kieran Harper out of the pack

The Bulldogs lead during the second quarter with the ball deep in North’s attacking 50. Will Minson wins the tap from the boundary throw-in, but Kieran Harper reads it better than his opponent and gathers.

With several opponents around him, Harper seemingly loses control of the ball, but somehow gets a boot to it and kicks a fantastic goal.

5. Robbie Tarrant around the corner
Despite his best efforts, Robbie Tarrant doesn’t have a goal to his name when he leads in behind Drew Petrie at the start of the last term.

Petrie is unable to gather, and Tarrant works hard to get clear of his opponent Roughead. He gathers with his back to goal, turns and dribbles a great goal on his left foot.
