It’s still at least two wins away from securing a finals berth, but North Melbourne and its captain Andrew Swallow are confident of a strong showing in September if the chance presents.

With seven wins from their last eight matches the Kangaroos are one of the form sides in the competition and Swallow says they could do some damage.

“For this group, I think we are ready to get a bit of experience in the finals,'' Swallow told The Age’s Jon Pierik.

“We still have a fair bit of work to get there. We are looking forward to it. The sort of footy that we can play; we would be a big chance to ruffle a couple of feathers.”

Despite his optimism, Swallow admits North still needs to improve to be competitive at the business end of the season.

''We probably still overused it (on Saturday) but it's a constant work in progress,” he added.

''We just have to adjust from that and start getting it in because we have the forwards that can kick goals.

“Big Drewy (Petrie) down there kicked the goals but Robbie Tarrant and Lachie Hansen are giving us a really good contest. When we get it in we score. We just have to do it more.''

The Kangaroos had 46 more disposals than their opponents but 10 less inside 50’s, yet were far more efficient in attack with 18 goals to 8.

This week’s match against the Bombers looms as yet another eight-point game, with only percentage separating the two teams.

''It's up to us now. If we keep winning we will make the finals.”
