With the club’s VFL affiliates both enjoying a bye this weekend, it is an opportune time to look at the performance of North’s players at North Ballarat and Werribee.

NMFC.com.au looks first at the Tigers, who currently sit in third position having won their last four games.

The following shows the performance of the Roos who were not in the side that travelled to Geelong.

Werribee Tigers (3rd, 5 wins, 2 losses)

Players with AFL appearances in 2014

- Daniel Currie
Round 4 v Northern Blues: 8 disposals, 5 tackles, 33 hit-outs
Round 5 v Casey: 18 disposals, 2 tackles, 30 hit-outs
Round 7 v Sandringham: 14 disposals, 1 tackle, 43 hit-outs
Round 8 v Richmond: 8 disposals, 6 tackles, 40 hit-outs, 1 goal

After three AFL games, Currie has spent the last month at Werribee. His return has coincided with the Tigers’ winning streak, proving himself as one of the better ruckmen in the VFL competition.

- Scott McMahon
Round 1 v Box Hill: 20 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles
Round 2 v Bendigo: 23 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles
Round 3 v Port Melbourne: 20 disposals, 9 marks
Round 4 v Northern Blues: 15 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles
Round 5 v Casey: 23 disposals, 11 marks, 3 tackles
Round 8 v Richmond: 16 disposals, 4 marks

McMahon has been the general in the defensive half at the Tigers. He has alternated between playing on small and key forwards, with his flexibility proving vital for a side which has conceded fewer points than any other side in the league.

His VFL form has resulted in two senior appearances and is keeping him right in the mix for a constant recall to the North 22.

No AFL appearances in 2014

- Kieran Harper
Round 2 v Bendigo: 10 disposals, 3 marks
Round 3 v Port Melbourne: 4 disposals, 6 tackles
Round 4 v Northern Blues: 20 disposals, 3 marks, 8 tackles, 2 goals
Round 5 v Casey: 13 disposals, 4 tackles
Round 7 v Sandringham: 11 disposals, 2 marks, 5 tackles, 2 goals
Round 8 v Richmond: 16 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal

Harper’s first fortnight in the Werribee side was marked with cautiousness and limited game time. However in the last month, he and his ankle have responded well to full games.

Averaging 15 disposals and more than a goal a game in Werribee’s winning streak, the lively forward is improving with every week.

- Taylor Hine
Round 1 v Box Hill: 17 disposals, 3 marks
Round 2 v Bendigo: 19 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles
Round 3 v Port Melbourne: 15 disposals, 7 marks, 5 tackles
Round 4 v Northern Blues: 16 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles
Round 5 v Casey: 18 disposals, 9 marks
Round 7 v Sandringham: 16 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles
Round 8 v Richmond: 25 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles

Hine has been a regular feature as a small defender for Werribee, often taking the opposition’s best small forward.

Consistent from week to week, he posted a season-high 25 disposals in his most recent outing against Richmond.

- Mason Wood
Round 1 v Box Hill: 19 disposals, 7 marks, 7 tackles, 1 goal
Round 2 v Bendigo: 19 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 4 goals
Round 3 v Port Melbourne: 15 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles
Round 4 v Northern Blues: 16 disposals, 9 marks, 5 tackles, 4 goals
Round 5 v Casey: 14 disposals, 7 marks, 3 goals
Round 7 v Sandringham: 19 disposals, 11 marks, 5 tackles, 4 goals
Round 8 v Richmond: 19 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 2 goals

From a North perspective, perhaps the biggest story to come out of Werribee this year has been the emergence of Mason Wood.

Leading the VFL goal-kicking table with 18 for the year, Wood’s accuracy has been impressive. Over the last four games, he has kicked 13.4.

He has also been finding his fair share of the ball, collecting at least 14 disposals in each of his seven games this season.

- Tim McGenniss
Round 1 v Box Hill: 14 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles
Round 2 v Bendigo: 23 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles, 1 goal
Round 3 v Port Melbourne: 10 disposals, 2 marks, 5 tackles
Round 4 v Northern Blues: 26 disposals, 6 marks, 7 tackles
Round 5 v Casey: 11 disposals, 3 tackles
Round 7 v Sandringham: 11 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles
Round 8 v Richmond: 20 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles

The raw numbers don’t tell the full story for McGenniss. Handed the job of shutting down the opposition’s best midfielder every week, the second year rookie usually gets the job done.

McGenniss can count Shane Savage, Ben Ross, Nick Graham and Port Melbourne star Chris Cain amongst his numerous scalps in 2014.

- Kayne Turner
Round 1 v Box Hill: 13 disposals, 2 marks, 7 tackles
Round 2 v Bendigo: 11 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 3 goals
Round 4 v Northern Blues: 10 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 1 goal
Round 5 v Casey: 13 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles
Round 7 v Sandringham: 15 disposals, 2 marks, 4 tackles, 3 goals
Round 8 v Richmond: 9 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal

Everyone’s favourite pint-sized rookie has fast gained a cult following at Arden Street. Able to play six of the seven games so far this season, Turner has maintained his role as a high half-forward.

Two three-goal hauls have been impressive, but perhaps his best attribute is his tackling, demonstrated to great effect with seven against the reigning premier Box Hill in Round 1.

- Ben Brown
Round 7 v Sandringham: 11 disposals, 6 marks, 2 goals
Round 8 v Richmond: 15 disposals, 9 marks, 2 goals

After an injury-interrupted pre-season, Brown has returned to the Werribee side in the last fortnight.

With two goals in each of his games, he has been playing as a key-forward and was particularly impressive against Richmond.

He’s likely to spend more time in the ruck after the bye, with more game time under his belt.
