Key forward Tyler Sellers underlined why the Roos secured him as a supplementary signing last month, kicking six goals in Saturday afternoon’s VFL intraclub at Arden Street Oval.

Charlie Comben also capped off his pre-season in impressive fashion, standing out in a key defensive role.

Sellers was accurate all day and clunked a couple of big grabs as the White team’s main target inside forward 50, while Comben consistently used his strength and smarts to impact the play.

As he has done all pre-season, Hugh Greenwood presented well, hitting the scoreboard early from 25 metres out after winning a free kick for holding the ball, and ending with two final-term majors.

Cooper Harvey saw midfield minutes over the course of the match and made them count, especially in the first quarter. He tallied a couple of clearances with powerful bursts away from congestion. The 2023 draftee was dangerous in his usual position as a forward as well, finishing with four goals including an eye-catching bender from the pocket.

It was a competitive start from the Blue team who went into the first change down by one point. Connor Downie hit an in-swinging beauty from 50 metres to tick the scoreboard over before some dogged work saw Nick Hodgson win a free kick and slot one from an equally tough distance.

Blake Drury was dangerous roaming across half-forward and set up Sam Lowson for his first of two with a well-placed deep ball towards the end of the opening period.

Following on from his return to action last week, Jackson Archer put in a promising display, showcasing his clean hands and defensive instincts.

After the first change, White began to assert itself. A well-taken pack mark from Harvey led to his second, before Curtis Taylor spotted up Sellers on the lead who slotted one seamlessly from long range.

Taylor again found space on his wing and sent the ball inside 50 which eventuated in Drury snapping home his first. Moments later he had a second after Luke McDonald launched a slingshot from half-back with a darting ball inboard.

The co-captain was effective with his disposal throughout the clash, putting his hand up for an AFL inclusion leading into the club's Round 2 bout with the Dockers.

Midfielder Will Phillips begun to work his way into things after the main break, linking up with Jack Watkins and Lowson to create some silky clearances.

Hamish Free was the designated ruck for Blue and battled young tall Taylor Goad for the better part of 100 minutes, before switching sides at half-time.

Brayden George's output grew as the game progressed while Riley Hardeman backed up some strong, early defensive efforts with plenty of drive off half-back.

After doing lots of the dirty work in the engine room alongside Cooper Lord, Phillips, and Free, Watkins mopped up a Blue turnover and slotted one from long range to finish off another solid quarter at the backend of the third.

Sellers and Greenwood dominated the last term after the entire squad completed a running block during the final change, while Taylor found more of the ball down forward, kicking a goal after reining in a tough grab.

Bigoa Nyuon limped off the ground late in the contest after copping a knock during a marking contest.
