Not just a Flash in the pan
Restricted by injuries and poor form, little 'Flash' has found it tough in 2010 and has may have once last chance at senior level to end on a high note.
Restricted by injuries and poor form, little 'Flash' has found it tough in 2010 and has may have once last chance at senior level to end on a high note.
With that in mind, he is doing everything in his power to get back in the senior side and have an impact.
Named in the best for the Roosters' on Saturday, Campbell was pivotal in a last quarter fight back that saw North Ballarat snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Campbell (21 possessions, 10 tackles) was lauded by North development coach John Lamont for his efforts not only with the football, but when the opposition had control.
"Matt put in a number of really good defensive efforts, highlighted by a tally of 13 one-percenters. His speed really gave him an advantage, and his decision making to break up the play really helped."
The Roosters were behind by 12 points at the final change against Geelong, but rallied to kick five goals in the last quarter and shore up second spot on the ladder.
Without Corey Jones who travelled interstate with the Kangaroos, North Ballarat were forced to look for other attacking options and Brayden Norris (18 possessions, 6 marks, 1 goal) relished his different role.
"Brayden worked hard as a lead up forward. He kicked a nice goal and should have kicked another. He's been a really consistent performer in his first season."
Luke Delaney (11 possessions, 7 spoils) was welcomed back into defence with open arms and didn't miss a beat.
"He was a really handy addition today. He spoiled strongly and kept his opponents under control. He's a valuable member of the Roosters' defensive unit," Lamont added.
After being demoted to the reserves only a week earlier, Warren Benjamin (17 possessions, 5 tackles) was keen to secure his spot in some September action.
"It was a really improved performance from Warren. He was clean at ground level and showed he deserves his spot in this side."
