Originally from Kensington, Spencer made his way through the junior ranks at the Kangaroos. A member of North's first ever under 19 premiership team, he topped the seniors' goalkicking list on seven occasions in his 10-years.

More than 50-years after his retirement, Spencer still sits in third place on North Melbourne's all-time goalkicking list.
