Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron says the club has not offered former Geelong star Steve Johnson a contract to come to the club in 2016.

The three-time premiership Cat toured the GWS facilities on Wednesday but Cameron told Fox Sports that no official deal had been put to Johnson.

It's believed Johnson is weighing up options to extend his playing career at the Giants with the option to move into a coaching role in the future.

Veterans such as James McDonald (Melbourne), Luke Power (Brisbane Lions) and Chad Cornes (Port Adelaide) have moved to the Giants after finishing long playing stints at their original clubs, before becoming assistant coaches at the Giants.

Cameron said his meeting with the 2007 Norm Smith medallist was positive.

"He spent a couple of hours with us to see where he's at with his coaching, and where he is with his playing career as well," Cameron said.

"It was a good two or three hours that we spent with him but I'm sure he's going to catch up with a few other clubs as well.

"He's in a pretty good space and he's probably weighing up his future.

"He's been up here with the All Australian team, they trained here last year so he was really impressed by our facilities.

"We're very open about it, we're sort of sounding him out and seeing what he wants to do."
