Paul Seedsman's previous association with Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade may convince him to choose the Suns as his preferred new home, the club's football manager Marcus Ashcroft says.

North Melbourne and Adelaide have also expressed their interest in signing the 23-year-old Collingwood defender, who is expected to nominate his desired club in coming days.

Ashcroft told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday that Seedsman remained prominent on the Suns' radar, citing the good rapport the 49-gamer developed with Eade at the Magpies.

"Paul's been up to visit our club, he's seen our facilities, he knows there's a role for him to play at our footy club and he's had some experience with 'Rocket' [Eade] at Collingwood," Ashcroft said.

"I think there's a lot of positives there for Paul … we're a very attractive proposition for him.

"He knows too that we're a side that, going forward, we're really well placed to have some success in 2016."

Eade was hired by Collingwood in late 2011 to fill their director of coaching role, before taking over from Geoff Walsh as the Magpies' director of football in 2013.

He was appointed Gold Coast's senior coach after the 2014 season, replacing the Suns' inaugural coach Guy McKenna.

Meanwhile, Ashcroft said negotiations with Port Adelaide about a trade that would see Charlie Dixon move to his preferred new home would intensify in the coming days.

He added the Suns had asked for more than the No.10 pick that Port had already tabled in exchange for the departing power forward.

"We're comfortable with (pick) 10, but we're also looking for something else," Ashcroft said.

"We know with Charlie he wants to go to Port and Port is committed to him, so we'll continue those discussions."

Ashcroft also reaffirmed the Suns' interest in opportunity-starved North Melbourne ruckman Daniel Currie as they look for an adequate replacement for wantaway tall Zac Smith.

"With Smith looking to get to Geelong, we think we still need a back-up ruckman," he said.
