North ruckman Todd Goldstein will give himself every chance to prove his fitness ahead of Friday night's clash against Richmond at Blundstone Arena.

The 27-year-old spent extended stints on the bench in last Friday night's loss to the Sydney Swans and ended the game prematurely with ice strapped around his right knee after receiving a knock during the game.

Goldstein, who performed light duties during the Roos' main training session on Tuesday, allayed any injury fears and said his week would mainly revolve around recovery.

"I'll be doing everything I can in terms of physio, massage and ice baths," Goldstein told NMFC.com.au.

"I'm giving myself every chance and I'm preparing to play, I'm expecting to play, I'm wanting to play, so it's just about trying to make sure I tick off every box I can."

Goldstein said he could have played out the game against the Swans but "it wasn't worth taking the risk" on his knee niggle.

"In the first half, I was right to go (but) the ball was stuck on the other side so I ended up being off for about eight or nine minutes because we couldn't get anyone to get off the ground," Goldstein said, explaining why he spent some rare time on the bench.

"And at the end of the game, it was more precautionary."

On Tuesday, coach Brad Scott was unsure whether Goldstein would take on the Tigers, but said North would name the All Australian ruckman in the 22-man squad and "have contingencies just in case".

"I don't know whether he'll come up or not – you would think he would. Generally if he cops a little knock he recovers pretty strongly from them," Scott said.

"He's able to do a fair bit of cross-training work. We've put a power of work into him over the journey so fitness is not a concern.

"It's just a matter of getting him physically in the best shape we can get him for Friday night."
