North Melbourne Captain Brent Harvey was put through one of the toughest pre-season trainings of his football career after a 1km time-trial, skills session and fitness testing at the Australian Catholic University on Friday.

The veteran didn’t disappoint and showed why he’s considered one of the game’s elite players with some outstanding results.

After running well in the time trial around Princes Park, Harvey led his side out onto the Arden Street Oval for training.

When the hour long session ended, most of his teammates headed home to rest, but the 31 year-old still had an afternoon of gruelling fitness testing to come.

It was Harvey’s turn to get strapped into the torturous treadmill at the Australian Catholic University for a VO2 Max Test.

Despite being heavily fatigued, Harvey set out at a steady pace under the watchful eyes of the University’s Sports Science Staff.

Conor Meredith and Drew Petrie joined a Channel 10 News crew throughout his run and when the end finally came Harvey had set a new benchmark.

Not only was his VO2 Max reading in the top ten at the club, Harvey had also managed to run quicker than any other player.

A fair effort considering the day he’d had.
