Brad Scott believes Brent Harvey could go on to play a remarkable 19th season, if his current form continues.

Speaking to the Morning Glory team on SEN, the North Melbourne coach praised Harvey’s longevity in the game, and the way he’s returned after a lengthy suspension.

“Certainly the way he’s looking at the moment he’ll play again next year,” Scott said.

“… but at the moment we are coming into Round 9 so there’s a lot of water to pass under the bridge yet.”

The number 29 has been in the Kangaroos’ best in his two matches this season, and yet another milestone is around the corner with his 350th game next week against the Saints.

“He played his 347th and 348th game and got tagged in both of them. He was hoping around his 350th they might stop tagging him.

“He’s resigned to the fact that it’s (tagging) going to happen forever.”

While the former captain was instrumental in Friday night’s match, North Melbourne ultimately fell at the final hurdle. Reflecting on the final minutes of the game, Scott believes his team did almost everything right.

“On reflection going over the vision and spending a couple of hours looking at, we had pretty much what we wanted.

“In that last marking contest we had Drew Petrie, Nathan Grima, Scott Thompson, all our big guys were there. (Todd) Goldstein was working back to cover as well.

“Everything was pretty good around the ball. It was purely our execution in a couple of stoppages. When we had the ball in our forward 50 with a minute and we were up, we’d like to think we could close out the game from there.”

With three wins and five losses, the Kangaroos are now in danger of slipping behind the pack, but Scott is optimistic.

“I’m not happy about it (losing tight matches). But I suppose when you analyse things you want to give yourselves the best opportunity to win, and pretty much every game we’ve played we’ve nearly done that.

“What we haven’t been able to do is close out games, and we haven’t been able to put a big enough gap between ourselves and some very good opposition when we’ve had the opportunity to do that.”
