Second-year Kangaroo Josh Goater will be available for selection heading into Round 21 against Melbourne, despite being subbed out of the clash with West Coast.

The defender copped a knock to his knee around his MCL in the second term and headed straight to the rooms at Optus Stadium. He later returned but was ultimately replaced by Jack Ziebell.

"He was acutely sore … but structurally there was no injury to the MCL," head of performance Kevin White revealed.

"He will take his time early in the week with recovery and straight-line running as he builds towards main training on Friday and playing again on the weekend."

Fellow backs Aiden Bonar and Aaron Hall will both face tests later in the week as they look to prove their fitness.

"Aiden built up his football function and speed across last week with his knee joint impingement, however he failed to pass through to play with his lack of ability to decelerate hard and have high-end force-absorption through it," White detailed.

"We will look to re-assess his ability and to tick this assessment off once again at the backend of the week after a strong rehab showing on Sunday.

"Aaron was off with viral illness for a period and on return to training had his Achilles flare up with re-loading once again.

"His ability to hit speed and accelerate was diminished during main training and he pulled up sore.

"Having completed two good strength loading sessions since then, the program will be set up for him to train later in the week at high function."

A return date for Callum Coleman-Jones is yet to be confirmed as the club awaits "more follow-up assessments with external practitioners" following the ruck-forward's second concussion of the season.

Young defender Flynn Perez will test again this week as he looks to return to the AFL line-up after being forced out in the build-up to Round 18 due to a knee complaint.

Midfielders Liam Shiels (calf) and George Wardlaw (hamstring) are 1-2 weeks away, while Cam Zurhaar (ankle) is in a race against the clock to feature again in 2023 after being given a 3-4 week return timeline.
