Scott Thompson is receiving plenty of well-deserved accolades after his tremendous job on Brisbane co-captain Jonathan Brown on Sunday.

The stats tell the story as to the true impact the defender had on the outcome.

  • Brown was held goalless against North Melbourne for the first time since 2002.

Coming into the game, Brown averaged 3.25 goals a game against North, his second-best return against a non-expansion club.

  • Thompson had 10 spoils, the equal-highest by any AFL player in Round 4.
  • As per Champion Data’s rankings, Thompson was the top-rated defender for the round, and third in the competition.
  • Thompson had 25 possessions, second-highest for North Melbourne in the match.

He has only found the ball more in six matches during his 97-game career.

  • Thompson had 10 marks; only the fourth time in his career he has reached double figures in that stat category.
  • Thompson had six rebound 50's, taking him to 19 in four games.

He is the highest-ranked Kangaroo for the stat and ranks inside the top 15 in the AFL in 2013.

  • Five of Thompson's 10 grabs came from Brisbane kicks, which made him second in the league for marks from opposition in Round 4.

In 2012 Thompson was equal-second in intercept marks with 64 in 21 games. So far in 2013 he sits two behind the leader (Harry Taylor) with 12 in four games.

  • To cap it off, Thompson kicked a superb long goal from 50 metres out in the first term.

It was just his fourth career major. All four have come against interstate teams.
