Despite a solid first game of 2015 from the 21-year-old in a side that thumped the Lions by 82 points, Wood said there was still plenty of competition for spots in the Roos' forward setup.
"You look at our team... just trying to cement that spot is extremely important," Wood told Sportsday Radio.
"You've got so many people trying to get a game as far as the forward line; Aaron Black, Majak Daw and Kieran Harper, there are plenty of people knocking down the door.
"For me, just coming in to the team I try and play my role and do my bit."

Wood was called in to the Round 2 side after a solid pre-season, with senior coach Brad Scott saying he was unfortunate to miss senior selection in the season-opener against Adelaide.
Despite not playing in the game, Wood said the entire club was stung by its sluggish start.
"It was a long week, so it's good to finally get out there and bounce back and kick off the season the way it should have started," he said.
"You can't question the response, it's what you want to see from the boys."
With the attention now turning to Saturday night's clash with the Power, Wood said there is no room for complacency.
"Port Adelaide are another class act and should be right up there for the Premiership," he added.
"It's a different challenge this week. All we're looking for is that effort and intensity that we brought against Brisbane and I'm sure we'll give them a good shake."
Wood, who played just his second AFL game on Sunday, also had special praise for fellow tall forward Ben Brown.
"He's (Brown) definitely a bit quirky and has his little things," he said.
"He's a good bloke and good to be around, he's always positive which is good and for the team.
"He also gives Goldy (Todd Goldstein) a chop-out in the ruck and provides another option inside 50. He doesn't give up, he's just going to get better and better."
