Star key defender Ben McKay will be available for selection this week, having overcome a bone stress issue sustained in pre-season.

The 25-year-old is yet to feature for the Kangaroos this season, but is likely to be included in the squad that faces the Lions in this weekend's Gather Round.

"He (McKay) ticked off his final high-loading football session on Saturday," head of performance Kevin White told NMFC Media.

"He pulled up really well from that, so his plan this week is to merge into training and he'll be available for selection which is a great result."

Key forward Nick Larkey will face a test prior to selection, having copped a stray elbow from Carlton's Jacob Weitering in the Good Friday SuperClash.

The Blues defender made direct contact to the spearhead's hip in a marking contest, but a slightly-hampered Larkey managed to play out the game.

"We weighed up whether to keep Nick on the ground ... the coaches' thoughts from the box was that he still presented as a really good target for us," White revealed.

"It was early in the quarter off a six-day turnaround, so the risk of pulling the sub early with the potential for another injury to happen (later) was a query that we had as well.

"He pulled up a bit sore from that episode so today (Tuesday) he just had a really light flush run.

"The plan then on Thursday is to increase his football function and we expect him to be available to play at the end of the week. So he's trending in the right direction, with the next 72 hours hopefully working in his favour for him to be available."

Draftee Cooper Harvey will miss out on playing at any level for the second weekend running as he continues to recover from a finger injury.

"He had an X-ray and a scan (last week) which showed a fracture that needed some screws inserted, and so he's going to miss two games all up," White said.

"He missed last weekend and will miss this weekend's game, but he'll have a big session on Saturday here (at Arden Street) and look to return to play next week.

"(It's) unfortunate for 'Coop' in his continuity, but the surgical advice was that it had to be done."

An awkward landing for defender Lachie Young in last Friday's VFL clash saw him finish the afternoon with heavy strapping around his ankle.

He'll face a test later this week ahead to test his functionality, but has been listed as "in doubt".

"'Youngy' at the end of the first quarter had an awkward landing on his ankle, (which was) strapped up and he played out the rest of the game," White said.

"He pulled up pretty sore and swollen and we're just trying to get the range of movement back in that ankle.

"Today he was off legs ... and we'll assess on Thursday whether he's available to play."
