North Melbourne's VFLW side has improved to 2-0 after defeating Williamstown at Arden Street Oval on Saturday afternoon.

For the second week in a row the Kangaroos had the advantage at every change as they controlled the game throughout the day to win 5.5 (35) to 3.6 (24).

The Kangaroos got off to a great start with Emily Paterno kicking a banana from the pocket for the first goal of the game, and minutes later Ashlea Melnikas slotted another one after a strong contested mark.

"The girls are over the moon," VFLW coach Steph Binder told NMFC Media post-game.

"I think they're just enjoying winning as a team, so they're really united and are doing it for each other.

"And that's not just the girls on the field but the whole squad."

Marianna Anthony was inspirational in midfield, leading the Kangaroos for disposals (21) and tackles (15), doing everything she could to drag her side over the line.

Paterno looked the most dangerous up forward being the only multiple goalkicker of the game. Adding to her opening-term major, she kicked a classy snap for the first goal of the second quarter which got the crowd up and about.

"She (Paterno) is an absolute superstar," Binder said.

"She can play small and tall, aerially she's such a strong mark but then if the ball's at ground level she's so explosive ... and she's just such a brilliant leader, so if she's not getting touches we know that she's impacting the game and being a real presence down forward for us."

Williamstown began to fight back in the second half after taking a 12-point deficit into the main change, but North Melbourne's defence, led by Ciara Fitzgerald, were able to remain composed and repel the visitors' repeat entries.

"'Fitzy' (Fitzgerald) was unbelievable today, she ended up being rested a bit because she had a slight head knock and we didn't want to take any chances, but she was standing so tall and taking really strong marks," Binder recalled.

"They (the defenders) were all really solid, I think it was the third quarter when the ball didn't leave our back half and we just absorbed all the pressure, so as a defensive unit it was great."

Audrey Rhodes booted the first of the final term which proved to be the sealer despite Williamstown's Sharnie Whiting converting from the top of the goalsquare with six minutes to go.

AFLW-listed players Taylah Gatt and Cassidy Mailer also stepped up, with 17 disposals and 16 respectively.
