The Kangaroos will have a first look at Daniel Currie as their number one and sole ruckman this week with Brad Scott and the match committee continuing to experiment with the club's NAB Cup line-ups.  In a somewhat surprising move, Currie will be the only true ruckman named in the squad on Thursday afternoon to play against Geelong.

"This is an opportunity for us to have a close look at Daniel and see what he can do," North's head coach Scott told NMFC.com.au.

"Obviously we are well aware of what Todd (Goldstein) can do on the field already and the NAB Cup gives us the chance to have a really good look at Dan and expose him to some elite competition in Geelong, while also giving him sole-ruck responsibility."

Scott though was quick to explain Goldstein wasn't being moved aside or rested.

"While we were really keen to see Dan one-out, we were also conscious of Goldy's conditioning and it's important that he continues to get some good fitness work in prior to Round 1, so we will play him in the VFL curtain raiser with North Ballarat.

"This is about giving Dan the chance to show us what he can do, without Goldy there to lean on.  It's exciting for him to get this opportunity and we're really confident he'll do well and carry the load."

North Melbourne has used the pre-season competition to change its structures up several times already with vice-captain Drew Petrie rested last week in order to give the club a better look at Aaron Black up forward working with Robbie Tarrant.  Lachlan Hansen was also moved from the forward-line to the back-line in Townsville and captain Andrew Swallow sat out.

Currie though, will have some back-up with Majak Daw and Drew Petrie expected to be included in the side after being rested last week against Gold Coast.  Both can play ruck/forward roles when Currie needs a rest.

24-year old Currie spent time with the Sydney Swans and played in the SANFL with North Adelaide before being drafted by North late last year.

He booted two-goals against the Suns and impressed against Richmond in the first round of the NAB Cup at Etihad Stadium.
